🏔️Zugspitze via Höllentalklamm - overnight at Höllentalangerhütte

Dates: Saturday 20 June to Sunday 21 June 2026
Meet: München Hbf, 12:15

🗺️Plan:

• Day 1: Train/bus to Hammersbach, hike through Höllentalklamm to Höllentalangerhütte, overnight there.
• Day 2: Very early start from the hut to avoid traffic at the Randkluft and via ferrata. Ascent via Höllentalferner / Höllentalklettersteig to Zugspitze, descent via Gatterl to Ehrwald.

• Outbound, Saturday 20 June: München Hbf Gl. 27-36, departure 12:28 from platform 27 with RB6. Arrival at Hammersbacher Fußweg, Garmisch-Partenkirchen at 14:22 with Bus 322.

🌦️Weather Forecast:

• Forecast checked Tuesday 16 June 2026:
• Saturday 20 June. Around hut level, forecast is roughly 16-22°C, light wind, with showers / thunderstorms possible especially in the afternoon and evening. Bring proper rain gear.
• Sunday 21 June: currently much clearer, around 4-10°C at summit, wind about 26 km/h, little/no precipitation shown.
• Forecast predictability is medium, so we will re-check on Friday evening.
• Thunderstorms, strong wind, or poor visibility are a no-go for the glacier, Randkluft, and via ferrata sections.

🥐Breakfast / Food:

• If we want to start earlier, ask the hut for Thermo-Breakfast / early breakfast in the Stube, or bring your own breakfast.
• For Day 2, bring enough snacks and water for a long alpine day.
• On the descent via Gatterl / Ehrwalder Alm, we plan to have lunch at Hochfeldern Alm.

🎒Packing List:

• Mountaineering boots suitable for crampons
• Crampons, helmet, harness, via ferrata set, via ferrata gloves
• Headlamp, GPX/offline navigation, power bank
• Minimum 4 L water capacity, food/snacks, electrolytes
• Warm layers for 3000 m, waterproof jacket/pants, hat, warm gloves
• Sun protection and sunglasses
• First aid kit, emergency blanket/bivy, personal medication
• Hut sleeping liner, earplugs, toiletries, cash, reservation confirmation
• ID and DAV card if you have one

⚠️Important:

• Everyone must have their own confirmed hut booking for Saturday night.
• This is a demanding alpine tour with exposed terrain, glacier travel, Randkluft area, and via ferrata sections.
• This is not a guided tour. Everyone is responsible for their own safety, decisions, equipment, and insurance.
• Final go/no-go depends on the latest weather and route conditions.
