Description

Dear Hiking Buddies,

Are you looking for a beautiful and demanding hike (kind of) close to Zurich? Then join me on my trek to the Federispitz, where we can enjoy the beautiful view of Lake Zurich, Lake Walen, and all the way into the Glarus Alps.

Meeting point and time

Starting point of the hike is the parking lot at the train station "Ziegelbrücke" (Starting Point) at 09:00. This will allow for the following connection per public transport from Zürich HB:

Please note that this is a roundtrip and there are parking spots at the starting point of the hike. Hence, I will enable the car pooling option. If you choose to come by public transport, please join by creating a fake car pool without possibility for other people to join.

Difficulty

T3 (Detailed descriptions of the hiking grades can be found here: Hiking Grades)

Please note that there will be some snow. Hence, if you do not feel comfortable hiking in snow, please carefully consider if you want to join this hike

Equipment

  • Hiking shoes, hiking poles and spikes could be helpful (there is still some snow to be expected in the peak area as per 24 April 2026)
  • Clothing suitable for the weather (several layers, rain jacket, spare clothes, etc.)
  • Sun protection (caps, sunscreen, etc.)
  • Sufficient amount of water as well as lunch and snacks (there is no opportunity to buy anything along the way except at the starting point in Ziegelbrücke)

Pace

Medium pace at around 400m/h.

Hey guys, I was expecting 5–20 cm of snow 😳, but in the photos it looks like there’s barely any! Could anyone share a bit more about the actual conditions? I’m considering doing the same route this Saturday. Thanks a lot in advance!
