Not least because of the sensational views down towards Lake Kochel and Lake Walchen, the ridge traverse from Herzogstand to Heimgarten is one of the true classics in the Bavarian Alps. If you extend the tour slightly, it also serves as the blueprint for a perfect mountain crossing using public transport: On the way from the easily accessible bus stop at Lake Walchen to the train station in Eschenlohe, you can bag no fewer than five peaks.
