Hello Climbers!

I’d like to do the via ferrata 'VAUDE Klettersteig Gargellner Köpfe'. At the moment it’s still closed, but I’m confident it will be open and accessible by June 21st. As you can see from the topo, this via ferrata is a medium/easy climb, with the option of a detour that includes a few more challenging sections and two rope bridges (I’m planning to take this route, but it’s absolutely not mandatory for everyone).

A special feature of this via ferrata is that it is located above 2000 meters, so temperatures will be quite cool. I recommend that everyone bring a light long-sleeved jacket. The approach to the via ferrata, as well as the descent back to the cable car station, takes about 45 minutes. The via ferrata itself lasts around 2 hours, so the entire experience takes roughly 3.5 hours.

To reach the starting point of this hike/Viaferrata, we need to take the cable car. A round‑trip ticket costs €30. At the moment, the cable car is not operating (it opens on June 12), but tickets can also be purchased online.

This hike starts and ends at the cable car station, where there is also a restaurant. At the end of the hike/climb, we can celebrate with a drink and grab a bite to eat at 2130 meters!

I’m coming from St. Gallen and I’ll have at least two free seats in my car. If anyone would like to travel with me and share the costs, just let me know. I’ll be leaving St. Gallen at around 8:00 in the morning.


What to bring:

  • full via ferrata equipment (helmet, climbing harness, via ferrata set, gloves) as well as proper footwear and a softshell,

  • water and something to eat (some Dextro Energy strongly suggested),

  • sunglasses and suncream,

  • good mood…and the determination to do it!
