Description

Motivational intro:

A previous organizer (also mountain goat !) of this hike on HB wrote in his description: 

"Whoever hasn't yet been to the Eng Valley / Ahornboden is missing out on one of the most beautiful hiking areas in the Alps—if not in the entire world. It’s a truly magical place."

Transport:

RB6              Munich Hbf 7:02 - 8:11 Lenggries

Bus 369        Lenggries 8:18 - 9:20 Hinterriss Gasthaus, Vomp    (yes, it's 1h bus ride)

Normally this bus ride is included in the Deutschland Ticket.

We return from the Austrian side from Schwaz via Kufstein.

For example, Schwaz - Munich: 18:09 - 20:19

We need to pay the ticket between Schwaz and Kufstein.

There are group discounts, 64.2 EUR for 6 people (10.7 per person) or 54.5 EUR for 5 people (10.9 per person).

The individual ticket is 15.7 EUR. All these prices are based on the OBB (Austrial Railways) app.

To get the group tickets, it would help if at least one more person has the OBB app installed and configured.


Pace/Trail/Plan:

This will be a chill hike. We aim to hike as a group and enjoy the scenery.

We will stop at the Lamsenjohhutte for drinks and great group vibes.

If you have pressing post-hike evening commitments in Munich, this hike is not for you. We will not rush to return early.

That being said, catching the 18:09 train mentioned above should be a feasible goal.


Weather:

Good to know

What to bring:

  • Deutschland Ticket
  • Water min 2 liters (I highly recommend adding electrolytes to the water)
  • ID (we will be crossing the border)
  • DAV or similar mountain insurance
  • Sunscreen
  • Food
  • Device with gpx uploaded and offline maps
  • Hat
  • Cash (huts, buses)
  • Poles (if you want to)
  • First aid kit or at least some basic items (band-aids, sanitizer)

Hello everyone. Fyi, I am monitoring the weather to make sure we get the best experience. The accuracy of the forecast for Saturday is still low so we can wait a bit more for updates. Right now I am still hopeful for Saturday. If not Saturday then I will move it to Sunday. Enjoy the rest of your week !
