Description

🏔️ Mittenwalder Klettersteig & Karwendel Ridge Traverse – Hike or Cable Car, Meet at the Summit

Two ways up. One legendary day in the Karwendel.

This tour is designed for everyone: the mountain goats who enjoy earning every meter of elevation and the clever engineers who believe cable cars were invented for a reason. 😄

Option 1: The "Earn Your Summit" Team 🥾

We start from Mittenwald and hike approximately 1,200 m of elevation gain to reach the Karwendelbahn summit station.

Train options from Munich HBF:

  • 05:27 departure (or)

  • 06:28 departure (arrives only ~15 minutes later)

Important: This group needs to maintain a good pace and should reach the top station by 11:00 AM to rendezvous with the cable car group.

Option 2: The "Save Legs for the Klettersteig" Team 🚠

For those who prefer to spend their energy on the ridge and via ferrata rather than the approach.

Train from Munich HBF:

  • 08:28 departure

  • Arrival in Mittenwald: 10:23

  • Cable car to the top and ready to meet the hiking group by approximately 11:00 AM

Via Ferrata Difficulty: The Mittenwalder Klettersteig is generally rated A/B, making it a relatively easy alpine via ferrata with limited technical difficulty. However, it is a long and exposed ridge traverse, requiring sure-footedness, a head for heights, and good endurance due to the length of the route and overall elevation gain. Please check the below video link for more clarity.

Once United, We Conquer the Ridge Together ⛰️

Our alpine playground for the day:

  • Gamseck (1717 m)

  • Westliche Karwendelspitze (2385 m)

  • Mittlere Linderspitze (2239 m)

  • Südliche Linderspitze (2304 m)

  • Sulzleklammspitze (2321 m)

  • Kirchlespitze (2301 m)

  • Rotwandlspitze (2192 m)

  • Brunnsteinspitze (2180 m)

Expect exposure, scrambling, stunning views, questionable route-choice discussions, and approximately 5,000 photos and drone shots that all look the same but are somehow all amazing.

🍻 The Reward Stop

We will stop at Brunnsteinhütte (1560 m) for food, drinks, and a collective review of everyone's life choices.

Until then:

  • Carry enough water.

  • Bring sufficient snacks and food.

  • Do not rely on finding supplies before reaching the hut.

  • If your entire nutrition plan is "someone will share,(LIKE ME)" please reconsider. 😄

Participation Requirements

  • Good fitness and mountain experience.

  • Sure-footedness and a head for heights.

  • Via ferrata equipment.

  • Ability to maintain a steady pace if joining the hiking group.

  • Positive attitude when the group leader says, "It's just around the corner," for the fourth time.

Disclaimer 😎

The hiking group's mission is simple:
Gain 1,200 vertical meters before 11:00 AM.

The cable car group's mission is equally important:
Arrive fresh, take summit selfies, and pretend you've been there all morning.

Either way, we all meet at the top and enjoy an epic Karwendel traverse together. 🚠🥾🏔️🍺
