Description

Hello Climbers!

I’d like to do the 'Via Ferrata dei Tre Signori - Monte Carasso'. As you can see from the topo, the YELLOW via ferrata is a medium climb, with the option of a RED detour that includes a few more challenging sections (with D/E sections that requires significant strength and technique) and a rope bridge (I’m planning to take this route, but it’s absolutely not mandatory for everyone).

The approach to the via ferrata, as well as the descent back to the cable car station, takes about 45 minutes. The via ferrata itself lasts around 3 hours, so the entire experience takes roughly 4.5 hours.

Meeting point at 10.45: Cable car station Monte Carasso https://maps.app.goo.gl/EFJfpaV7pGWFN3P79

To reach the starting point of this hike/Viaferrata, we need to take the cable car. A round‑trip ticket costs 21ChF . I strongly recommend buying the tickets in advance, as the waiting time on site can reach up to three hours on busy days. Tickets are usually available about a month beforehand

This hike starts and ends at the cable car station, where there is also a restaurant (Grotto Mornera), you can rent your Viaferrata harness here:

At the end of the via ferrata, we descend straight into the town and then move on to the 'Agriturismo La Finca', where we will spend the night sleeping on straw (you need to bring your own sleeping bag). Spending the night here costs only 25 CHF, and everyone must book their own accommodation individually. In addition to your sleeping bag, I recommend bringing everything you need for a night away, for example, pajamas, a towel, soap, a toothbrush, and a change of clothes.

Everyone is free to make their own plans for the evening/Sunday including heading back home. For those who are staying, we can all plan the dinner/evening together.

The next day, if you’ve brought your swimsuit, we can visit the 'Pozzone di Osogna'

Or we can simply decide on the spot and organise other activities.

Good to know

I’m coming from St. Gallen and I’ll have at least two free seats in my car. If anyone would like to travel with me and share the costs, just let me know. I’ll be leaving St. Gallen at around 7:30 in the morning.

What to bring in the ViaFerrata:

  • Full via ferrata equipment (helmet, climbing harness, via ferrata set, gloves) as well as proper footwear and a softshell,

  • Water and something to eat (some Dextro Energy strongly suggested),

  • Lunchbox (we start the Viaferrata around noon),
  • Sunglasses and suncream,

  • good mood…and the determination to do it!

I have already bought the ticket at 11.15 to Mornera, descending at 17. The whole experience should last around 4.5h. See you there :-)
