Wendelstein is one of the most recognisable peaks around, with its observatory and masts, and it provides panoramic views over the fields of Bavaria to the north, and so much of the Alps to the south. Wildalpjoch, as the name suggests, is more wild, and should provide a more peaceful, tourist-free summit. Let's visit both on our journey into the Mangfallgebirge from the Inntal.
This is a long hike, with a lot of ascent,
so please only register if you are happy that you are able to complete
the route. This is
not a run (expect to sweat anyway, given the weather), but we will not
go too slowly, as there's a lot of distance to cover. That said, a
saving of 200 m ascent and 2km is possible by omitting the summit of Wendelstein, so you are welcome to wait at the Wendelsteinhaus.
All hikers take part at their
own risk. Read through everything below, and familiarise yourself with
the route before participating. As this is a fairly ambitious hike, it is
fairly dependant on the weather. I will decide on Friday whether to
cancel.
Kit list
This is what I am bringing, yours should be similar, especially with respect to the items in bold.
Transport
Meet on the platform at Munich Ostbahnhof (top of eastern stairs on platform 8) by 6:40, as that is when I will buy the ticket. If you are travelling from Hauptbahnhof (Salzburg train at 6:46 from platform 10), let me know when you register, and confirm you are there by WhatsApp/SMS by 6:35. We will buy the group ticket at Ostbahnhof, but a standard MVG (6-ring) ticket will cover your journey to Ostbahnhof. If you are late, let me know by SMS/WhatsApp so that I can buy you a ticket too. We will travel with a Guten Tag Ticket, which will cost around €11. If you are coming from elsewhere, and so need a Bayern Ticket to get to the station, please let me know in advance. This way you can buy one for everyone.
