Looking for your first ever via ferrata, or wanting to build confidence before tackling more challenging routes? Join us for a fun day at the Hanauerstein Übungsklettersteig near Königssee, one of the best training ferratas in the Berchtesgaden Alps.

This outing is designed for all experience levels:

• ✅ Complete beginners who want to experience their first via ferrata in a safe and controlled environment.

• ✅ Intermediate climbers looking to improve footwork, movement, clipping technique, and confidence on steeper terrain.

• ✅ More experienced ferratists who want a relaxed day outdoors, practice session, or warm-up before larger alpine objectives.

What makes Hanauerstein special?

Unlike a typical via ferrata that follows a single route to a summit, Hanauerstein is a natural outdoor training wall featuring multiple routes of different difficulties on the same rock face. This means everyone can climb at their own pace and challenge themselves as much—or as little—as they want.

Routes & Difficulty Levels

🟢 Easy Route (A/B)

• Ideal for first-timers.

• Gentle terrain with excellent footholds.

• Perfect for learning clipping techniques and getting comfortable with exposure.

🟡 Moderate Route (B/C)

• A step up in difficulty.

• More vertical sections and greater reliance on technique.

• Great progression after completing the A/B line.

🟠 Challenging Route (C/D)

• Steeper climbing with more sustained effort.

• Suitable for those who already have some via ferrata experience and want to push their level.

🔴 Difficult Route (D)

• The most athletic line on the wall.

• Includes steep sections and requires good upper-body endurance and efficient movement.

The Plan

Instead of driving directly to the wall, we'll start from Berchtesgaden and enjoy a pleasant walk to the ferrata. This adds a nice hiking component to the day, allowing us to enjoy the scenery, get warmed up, and spend more time outdoors.
