Route Overview: Mairspitze & Stubai Huts Circuit

This high-altitude circuit covers a premier segment of the Stubai Alps, connecting several of the region's most iconic mountain huts. The route scales steep glacial valleys, traverses high alpine rock faces, and tackles the rugged summit of the Mairspitze ($2,781\text{ m}$). It offers a classic, demanding taste of the famous Stubai High Trail (Stubaier Höhenweg).

Trail Sections & Landmarks

1. Valley Floor to the Alpine Bowls

The route connects to the valley floor near the Grawa Alm ($1,530\text{ m}$), right by the dramatic Grawa Waterfall. From the lush valley floor, the path turns into a steady, steep ascent, quickly climbing above the tree line into the high-altitude glacial valleys.

2. The High Traverse via Dresdner Hütte

Pushing into the western alpine bowl, the trail reaches the historic Dresdner Hütte ($2,302\text{ m}$). From this base, the route traverses rugged moraine terrain and boulder fields beneath the glacier networks, heading eastward along the high mountain flanks toward the next hanging valley.

3. The Glacier Lakes & Sulzenauhütte

The path leads seamlessly across to the spectacularly perched Sulzenauhütte ($2,191\text{ m}$). This section provides front-row views of the turquoise, ice-fed alpine lakes and the dramatic ice breaks of the Sulzenauferner glacier directly to the south.

4. Over the Mairspitze to Nürnberger Hütte

The eastern loop presents the route's primary alpine challenge: a steep, switchbacking climb up and over the ridge of the Mairspitze ($2,781\text{ m}$). After taking in the panoramic views from the summit, the trail drops down into the adjacent valley to reach the beautifully situated Nürnberger Hütte ($2,280\text{ m}$), before looping back westward along the high-trail network to complete the grand circuit.
