The Triglav Seven Lakes Valley (Dolina Triglavskih jezer) is one of the most spectacular hiking areas in Slovenia’s Julian Alps, taking you deep into the rugged beauty of Triglav National Park. The trail winds through peaceful alpine forests, open meadows, dramatic limestone landscapes, and a series of beautiful mountain lakes and seasonal tarns, each with its own character.

Along the route, you can encounter the dark waters of Black Lake (Črno jezero), the iconic Double Lake (Dvojno jezero), where two lakes are connected and surrounded by towering peaks, and the impressive Big Lake (Veliko jezero), also known as Lake Ledvica, the largest and arguably most striking lake in the valley. Further along are the smaller Brown Lake (Rjavo jezero) and Green Lake (Zeleno jezero), known for their distinctive colors, as well as Lake under Vršac, tucked beneath the surrounding mountain peaks.

What makes the hike especially fascinating is that the valley is constantly changing. Depending on the season and rainfall, some of the smaller lakes and tarns can become very shallow or even disappear, while spring snowmelt can transform the landscape with abundant water and lush alpine vegetation.

The lakes, however, are only part of the experience. Between them, the trail reveals enormous limestone cliffs, rocky karst formations, alpine meadows, dwarf pine, and breathtaking views across the Julian Alps. With every turn, the landscape feels more remote and wild, making the Seven Lakes Valley one of Slovenia’s most memorable mountain adventures.

It’s a challenging hike, but the combination of pristine alpine lakes, dramatic mountain scenery, and the peaceful atmosphere of Triglav National Park makes every step worthwhile. 🌲💧⛰️
