Description

You must read the instructions carefully before joining!

Event Description copied from Mukul‘s Sunday event. Thanks for preparing all details. I don’t have time to join on Sunday, so I decided to do the same event on Saturday. It seems the Meteor shower will be active on that night as well.

Plan: We will meet at Winklmoosalm, hike to the Steinplatte, watch the sunset, and return to Winklmoosalm. At the Starpark we will watch the stars, milky way and perseids. You can bring a Mat to lay down and watch the Night sky. We can leave the stuff we won't need while hiking, in the car.

Preliminary schedule:

~ 15:00 start in Munich

~ 16:45 arrival at Winklmoosalm Parkplatz

17:00-17:15 (sharp!) start hiking

~ 20:30 sunset at Steinplatte,

~ 22:30 back at Winklmoosalm

window of best visibility/max. rate if there is a clear sky: after midnight

~ 02:00 departure from Winklmoosalm (up to each car)

Legal disclaimer: This is not a guided tour. I merely organize the trip to the starting point with like-minded, qualified, properly equipped and reliable persons. Every participant must be able to navigate her/himself on the suggested route. If you join, you acknowledge that hiking is dangerous, you are fully responsible for yourself.

Note: Please write me a message before joining my car. There are just 2 places at my car available, because 2 other people will join as well, who are not at Hiking Buddies.

I created this event for 8 people, so that a second car with 5 people can join, if someone would be interested.

Good to know

RED LIGHT POLICYFor our best viewing experience we will not allow any other than red light, which does not disturb human night vision. You must bring a headlamp or torch with red light. The red light must be activated directly, without cycling through other light modes.

Camera flash must be disabled. Activate the blue light filter (night mode) on your smartphone, if it supports it.

Things to bring:

  • hiking shoes/boots (it might be slippery, you might stumble in the dark)
  • headlamp or torch with red light (see policy)
  • drinks (minimum 1l)
  • food/snacks for dinner (the hut will probably be closed)
  • appropriate clothing (it may get cold, down to 10°C)
  • your passport or ID (!) because we are passing the border
  • charged smartphone, emergency no 112 saved, optionally powerbank
  • optional: binocular, telescope, hiking poles, picnic equipment or mat to lay down for sky gazing (the ground may be wet and cold), Cameras and equipment for long exposure Photography

my car is full and Marc is joining without car (maybe he lives in that area). You could rent a car and take some more people with you and share the costs with them.
