Hoi hikers,
Let's go hike along 3 famous Suonen/Bisses in Wallis.
Suonen: artificial irrigation canals, usually open gravity canals that cross slopes in mountainous regions. In these canals, water flows from a higher starting point to a lower end point according to the law of gravity. The purpose of these canals is to transport water from the areas with higher rainfall to the agricultural areas. Accompanying paths were usually created for maintenance and upkeep, often very exposed. Many of these paths are now used as tourist hiking trails. See levadas in Madeira.
