Description

Let’s make the most of the sunshine forecast and doubtless some great views. Not beginner friendly in terms of elevation/distance/pace/T3.

We will keep it punchy around 400m / hr elevation since we are following daylight and the return bus ;-)

It’s an early start. I have a low tolerance for no shows and last minute flakers so only join if you actually intend to hike 😘

Plan:

6:50 meet MUC hbf gleis 34

7:04 train departs

8:11 arrive in Lenggries

8:18 bus 369 departs towards Eng

8:35 Arrival at start point (Fall abzw)

Duration of hike: 8hr15

Lunch: 1 hour at Tölzer hütte (it is definitely open) https://maps.app.goo.gl/zBGM7gJ91x6diNc26?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy

Return buses from endpoint at Oswaldhütte. We aim for the 17:58 bus, worst case we get the 19:03 bus instead.

We have daylight until 18:35ish so it’s do-able.

What to bring:

Your best self obviously!

- Hiking shoes

-poles

- ID Card/passport as well be in Austria

- cash for the bus (approx 8€ I think but let’s see if we can wangle a group ticket)

-cash for the hut as we will take lunch there

- Enough water for the hike + snacks

- Power bank

-Sunscreen (weather is strange rn)

-layers incase it gets chilly

I’ll keep an eye on the weather but last weekend we didn’t need spikes or gaiters deeper into Eng so should be fine without.

Hiking can be dangerous. I am not a mountain guide, and everybody joining this hike does this at their own risk.

Description courtesy of Marco :-)

One of the most beautiful climbs to the Tölzer Hütte (1,835 m) in the Karwendel foothills, already on Tyrolean soil, begins at the small church village of Fall on the Sylvenstein reservoir in the Upper Bavarian Isarwinkel in the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen. The small town of Fall actually got its name from a waterfall in Dürrach, the Faller Klamm. Originally there were a few wooden houses, a small chapel and a forestry office. In 1954, construction work began on what is now the Sylvenstein reservoir and the residents of the town of Fall were forcibly relocated and about 100 m further up. The town of Neu-Fall was founded.
From the shore of the Sylvensteinsee, this tour initially leads you through dense forest on a fairly level forest path. Then it's still pleasant above the Krottenbachklamm in the direction of Delpsee. The gorge that the Krottenbach has eaten into the rocks is already impressive here. The ascent at the end of the valley to Delpsee gets later steeper and quite strenuous. The reward is a lot of water.
Water is one of the main charachters here. A large amount of water flows in the Krottenbach and the numerous streams and waterfalls that flow into the valley to the left and right. You also cross the stream several times - very good when it is hot. You can enjoy a really spectacular hike and be impressed by the abundance of water in the Karwendel.
Finally the path bends to the left and now it goes steeply uphill through rocky terrain until you pass the border with Austria and stand in front of the small Delpssee, so beautiful located. What a wonderful corner of Earth is here! We will have a break here for lunch probably to enjoy the atmosphere. Here you keep to the right and follow path no. 239 slightly uphill to the Tölzer Hütte of the German Alpine Club.
To the right is the Delpsjoch. From the hut becomes a few meters in
descended the Delpshals (saddle). The wayside shrine can be visited on the saddle hill. We leave the marked path at the
signposts and climb
up to the right of the cliffs on the steep meadow ridge on a narrow path and footprints. The path is earthy and a little eroded with stones. The summit of the Delpsjoch with the small wooden cross is rocky for the last three meters.

Once you have reached the top, you can enjoy the impressive panorama of the main Karwendel ridge from the sun terrace: Lalidererspitze, Birkkarspitze, Östliche Karwendelspitze and the Torkopf in front of it can all be explored with your eyes!

After a well deserved break at Tölzer Hütte we go down to valley direction Oswaldhütte where the bus back home is waiting for us.
