Hoi hikers,

What is better than the colourful autumn foliage? The Matterhorn with another 4k peaks and glaciers in the background! Golden larches, blue lakes, white peaks, high life over 3000m.

As Zermatt is far from Zürich, I organise this time a hiking weekend, with an overnight in the Zermatt Youth Hostel.  Everyone shall book and pay their accomodation individually.

As the hostel is on the way, we can leave some stuff there, so we don't have to carry during the hike.

Of course it's possible to join for only 1 day too.

Day 2: https://www.hiking-buddies.com/routes/events/10575/

Weather forecast: Sunny, colder above 2500m. Gornergat (3100m)Zermatt (1608m)

Note: This hike is not suitable for beginners. Spikes and headlamp are recommended!

How to get there:

Journey by public transport: ZH HB - Visp - Täsch (replacement bus) - Zermatt

The train (IC8 to Brig) departs at 07:02 from ZH HB.

Journey by car: Use gps. Zermatt is car-free.

Meeting point:
10:20 AM -  Zermatt train station

Hike:
  • The hike will last ca. 8 hours with a lot of viewpoints.
  • Short lunch break at the Gornergat.
  • The pace will be medium/fast (>= 555hm/h) with enough time to admire the landscape. In case you're not able to keep up with the pace, we might split up.
  • Acc. to the webcam, the Hohtälligrat is a bit snowy, but it seems doable. We will decide at the Gornergrat.

  • Proper hiking boots, poles, spikes, snacks, enough water, headlamp, proper clothes acc. to the weather, sunscreen, good mood and fitness.
