The Hochkalter Überschreitung is a strenuous, scenic alpine route that requires advanced climbing skills. It stretches across 18.1 kilometers, involves a steep elevation gain of 1,906 meters, and demands secure footing, a head for heights, and physical endurance. The trek includes sections up to climbing grade II and is not equipped with fixed safety features. Starting from Hintersee, it takes approximately 10-12 hours, ascending to the Hochkalter summit and descending through the Ofental Valley.
