A chilled out "easy" Sunday — just going up to the Säntis, how about it? 😄
For once, how about doing something "easy" on Sunday? Like, hiking up from Schwägalp to Säntis? I plan to take the gondola down, being lazy and all.
Compared to my other hikes, that'll be a short one. Weather forecast is also good. It'll be cold up on the summit, though.
Note: This hike is not suitable for beginners, due to…me 😜
· 🚶 Start point (for the hike): Schwägalp, Passhöhe (bus stop — at the restaurant, not at the Gondelbahn)
· 🏁 Destination: Säntis 🏔️
· ⏳ Duration: 3¾ hours of hiking
· ↔️ Distance: 6 km
· ⬆️ Ascent: 1'225 hm
· ⬇️ Descent: 36 hm 😄
(Note: data taken from SwissTopo screenshots. Different apps calculate these data differently.)
Equipment
· Hiking poles: STRONGLY Suggested
· Proper boots
· Layers of clothes
· Gloves
· Sun protection - cream and glasses
· Water: something to drink — about 2l. There are not many fountains along the way, being a mountain and all…
· Picnic: I'll aim to have a short break on the way. Up on the peak, we can warm up with a hot chocolate or such.
· Money for the gondola down from Säntis. 38 CHF or 19 CHF with halbtax/GA.

Public transportation
From Zürich in the morning
Meeting point: I will join in Gossau in the S23, as I come from Winterthur. I have reserved seats. As soon as I know where the seats are, I'll update — this will be on the evening before, after 20:00.
Back from SÄNTIS at the afternoon
It very much depends on the time we arrive at the destination. There's a connection every 1 hour.
Tickets
Make sure to have tickets for the trains/busses.
