Description

This is a T5 hike with Via Ferrata Level C and is not suitable for beginners.

This is a carpool event, please do not join unless you add your own car. I can't change the event now.

We will do the hike in reverse, start from Mittenwald and finish in Scharnitz.

I aim to finish this hike before it gets dark so please only join if you can keep up. Bring your via ferrata, helmet, spikes and headlamp (we might end up hiking in the dark or take a different trail). 

Things to bring:

  • proper hiking shoes;
  • via ferrata set;
  • helmet;
  • spikes;
  • headlamp;
  • gloves;
  • food and water for the day;
  • layered clothing according to the latest weather forecast;
  • GPX viewer with the route information;
  • Deutschland ticket.

Optional:

  • hiking poles;
  • first aid kit.

the Mittenwalder Höhenweg Is level B at most. But it's very long, one year ago with a fit group we reached the Mittenwalder Bergstation at 19, and we had to do an emergency overnight stay in Mittenwalder Hütte because of the darkness. Descending a T4 path down from the Bergstation is highly unpleasant if not dangerous by night. This happened in September, and now you have much less daylight and the hut is closed... I would consider more time than the official one and consider to break off before the beginning of the ferrata if you don't have 4h to cross it and 3h to get down from the Bergstation, which is unlikely I think. Once you start the ferrata there's no emergency exit and no shortcut, only almost at the end there's a path leading between Mittenwald and Scharnitz through another hut
