Description

Hoi hikers,

Are you ready for a challenging(?) ridge hike up to the Pilatus? Probably the last chance to do this year.

Additional motivation: Europe's highest Christmas market

More info: https://wandernohneende.blogspot.com/2019/09/pilatusgrat-gfellen-entlebuch-mittaggupfi-pilatus-kulm.html

Weather forecast: Sunny, quite mild. Pilatus Kulm

Note: This hike is not suitable for beginners. Spikes and headlamp are recommended!

How to get there:

Journey by public transport: ZH HB - Zug - Luzern - Entlebuch - Gfellen (bus)  (Need to change in Zug bc of construction works)

The train (S5 to Zug) departs at 07:39 from ZH HB.

Journey by car: Use gps. Note: This is not a round trip

Meeting point:
9:40 AM -  Gfellen bus stop

Hike:
  • The hike will last ca. 7-8 hours (or less, if you skip some downhill part) with a lot of viewpoints.
  • Short lunch break (Mittagessen) at the Mittaggüpfi.
  • The pace will be medium/fast (>= 555hm/h) with enough time to admire the landscape. In case you're not able to keep up with the pace, we might split up.
  • Acc. to the Pilatus webcam, the ridge is a bit snowy, but it seems doable (with spikes).
  • Skipping the downhill:
  •         If you want to skip the whole dowhnill, you can get the cable car/train down from Pilatus Kulm.
  •         If you want to skip some part of the dowhnill (ca. 440hm), you can get the cable car down from Alpgschwänd, then continue walking to Hergiswil.

Equipment:

  • Proper hiking boots, poles, spikes, snacks, enough waterheadlamp, proper (warm) clothes acc. to the weather, sunscreen, good mood and fitness.
