Description

I'd like to visit Zugspitze again in winter condition but via Gatterl this time. Again I don't plan to hike down as I need to be back in Munich before 1900 so we will go for the cable car. Also based on last week's experience I will take the very first train that departs from Pasing (you can of course take it from Hbf if its better for you): https://www.bahn.de/buchung/start?vbid=50bdbe67-bb16-4e5f-9550-9aee9b662c3e

Few things to note:

  • The snow depth is about 50cm (https://zugspitze.de/en/Service-information/Weather), so I'll bring my pair of snowshoes. You can decide for yourself if its necessary to bring yours.
  • Based on my experience last week, the last ~100hm to the ridge is quite icy, so I'd also take crampons and axe just in case.
  • The temperature could be -6 degrees or lower (https://www.bergfex.de/zugspitze/wetter/prognose/#day3)
  • Again, last cable car departs at 1645.
