Time for some easy snowshoeing before the holidays.

Let’s go to Kronberg in the beautiful canton of Appenzell. We will start from Schwägalp at the bottom of Säntis and make our way up to Kronberg through winter wonderland. At Kronberg there is the possibility to grab a warm or cold snack/drinks at the restaurant and also for those who want to skip the downhill part to take the cable car (ticket purchase then and there) down to Jakobsbad and from there the train back to civilization. 

Pace will be easy/moderate however you need some condition for the ascent with snowshoes. 

The Route

• 11.5 km
• Ascent: 471m; descent: 945 m
• T2/T3
• 4 h plus breaks

Getting there

• Take the IR 13 at 08:09 from Zuerich HB to Gossau (arrival: 09:14). 
• Change to S23, departing 09:21 to Urnäsch (arrival: 09:43). 
• From Urnäsch take the bus B791 at 09:47 to Schwägalp, Säntis Schwebebahn (arrival 10:10).
• I will join you in Urnäsch.
• In case you plan to come by car, pls note that this is not a round trip.

Getting back

• From Jakobsbad there are train connections every half hour towards Zürich.

What to bring

• Snowshoes and trekking poles 
• Hiking boots and gaiters to prevent the snow from getting in the boots
• Some good layers of clothing (it might get windy)
• Warm hat and gloves
• Sun protection: sunscreen and sunglasses!
• Enough (2l) water/tea for hydration
• Some snacks and/or lunch in case you don’t want to eat in the restaurant. I will bring my own lunch.
