Ski Tour - Brauneck or Rißkopf

Brauneck (1555 m)

Ski Tour | Bavarian Pre-Alps | Lenggries

810 m elevation gain | Ascent: 2:10 hrs | Difficulty: (1 out of 6)

Looking for a ski tour on Brauneck? Yes, it exists—and beyond the slopes! While the descent follows groomed tracks, the solitary ascent through snow-covered forests offers a genuine ski-touring experience. This tour is ideal for training and as an alternative in poor snow conditions. Those descending late in the afternoon will often have the slopes almost to themselves.

Via the A8 Munich – Salzburg (exit Holzkirchen) or the A95 Munich – Garmisch (exit Sindelsdorf) to Bad Tölz, then continue on the B13 toward Lenggries. In Lenggries, head to the Wegscheid district, and follow the signs to the Draxlhang parking lot.

Starting Point:

Draxlhang parking lot in Lenggries-Wegscheid

Route

Option 1:

From the parking lot, head left past the Lenggries Ski School and ascend parallel to Draxlhang toward the forest edge. Follow the trail along the creek to the piste near the Milchhäusl lift’s valley station. Cross the piste to the left, ascend the steep slope on the right edge, and diagonally traverse to the left edge. At a flatter section, follow the ski touring track into the forest.

Pass a small hut and follow the path above the piste until it’s reached again. Shortly after, take a left turn into a forest trail with a hairpin turn. The route passes between Blaickenberg and the “Family Descent” run. At an open, nearly flat area, leave the piste through a gap in the fence into true ski touring terrain. The trail crosses a meadow and then a forest to a viewpoint atop a steep slope. Continue diagonally upward through the woods to a clearing and reach Florianshütte. Ascend to the Flori lift's top station, cross it, and continue to the Florilift II station. Follow the left path through the forest to Streidlalm and ascend to Brauneck cable car’s top station, reaching the summit in minutes.

Option 1a:

To avoid conflicts with piste operators (Route 1) or landowners (Route 2), follow this alternative. Begin left of Draxlhang, cross a small bridge, and follow a trail alongside the creek to the forest edge, connecting with Route 1’s described ascent.

Option 2:

From the Lenggries Ski School, follow the trail south parallel to the cross-country track to Murbach. Cross the bridge with a red metal railing, pass through a gate, and ascend to a hut. Continue past another hut, joining Route 1.

Option 3:

Start like Option 2 to the bridge, but continue uphill on the hiking trail to Florianshütte. Ascend the steep slope, keeping avalanche safety in mind. Follow Route 1 after the steep section.

Descent:

Via the Brauneck ski area slopes (“Family Descent”) to Wegscheid

---

Characteristics/Difficulty:

This predominantly easy ascent is suitable for beginners and offers a chance to experience winter on Brauneck away from the busy slopes. Forest sections provide views of Karwendel and Isarwinkel. Routes are usually tracked soon after snowfall, but orientation can be challenging without tracks. At Florianshütte, ski tourers get a free schnapps. Afternoon ascents allow descents after slope closure (16:30).

Note: Piste use is prohibited from 18:00 to 06:00 due to cable winch operations.
