Hello, dear hiking buddies!
This is my suggestion for a winter hike on Sunday, March 2nd on Selamatt.
When? - Sunday, 02.03.
Where? - Alt St. Johann / Selamatt, more precisely "Toggenburger Sagenweg" (winter edition)
What? - Regular winter hiking, SAC level T2, ca. 9 km, 3-4 h without breaks, official route 151
How is the route? - Starting and ending at the cable car "Selamatt", above Alt St. Johann, across the alpine plain.
How to travel? - Public transport (train, bus). From Zurich: S2, platform 32, departure 8:17, meeting 8:10 o'clock in sector B, next to the staircase. Go and return via Alt St. Johann, so a day-ticket is an option BUT safer tickets are still available!
How much does it cost? - The tickets (from Zurich) are 16.60 + 18.60 CHF each trip, so ~ 35 CHF in total. Additional cablecar is needed for 22 CHF (halb-tax). Maybe 5-10 CHF for a coffee on top. So ~ 60 CHF in total.
What to consider? - a) Please be on time and follow the timetable. We are not able to wait or search for people, as public transport is timely and often crowded. b) Always stay with the group and give a shout if you fall behind or need a break! c) Bring enough provisions (water, snacks) for the whole day, as we are going to have a picnic somewhere. Or buy at the restaurants én route. d) For a winter hike, bring an extra pair of socks. And wear changeable layers of clothes to adjust temperature. Bring sunscreen and sunglasses, too!
