Hello, dear hiking buddies!
This is my suggestion for a winter hike on Sunday, March 16nd at Engelberg. (day has been set)
When? - Sunday, 16.03.
Where? - Engelberg more precisely "Panoramic trail Rigidalalp", "World's End" and "Cave path" combined.
What? - Regular winter hiking, SAC level T2, ca. 14 km, 4-5 h without breaks, official route 530 and official route 531, IPMPORTANT: Snow shoes OR gaiters are recommended for parts of the route. Otherwise bring two plastic bags and tape to cover your boots.
How is the route? - Starting at the cable car "Ristis", ascending to "Brunnihütte". Then on the way down a detour to Horbis, where we see the "World's End". And finally back to Engelberg station via the "Cave path".
How to travel? - Public transport (train). From Zurich: IR 70, platform 6, departure 8:10, meeting 8:00 o'clock in front of the first 2nd class carriage. Go and return via Luzern, so a day-ticket is an option BUT safer tickets are still available!
How much does it cost? - The tickets (from Zurich) are 13.20 + 20.00 CHF each trip, so ~ 33 CHF in total. Additional cablecar is needed for 10 CHF (halb-tax). Maybe 5-10 CHF for a coffee on top. So ~ 50 CHF in total.
What to consider? - a) Please be on time and follow the timetable. We are not able to wait or search for people, as public transport is timely and often crowded. b) Always stay with the group and give a shout if you fall behind or need a break! c) Bring enough provisions (water, snacks) for the whole day, as we are going to have a picnic somewhere. Or buy at the restaurants én route. d) For a winter hike, bring an extra pair of socks. And wear changeable layers of clothes to adjust temperature. Bring sunscreen and sunglasses, too!
