Description

If the avalanche and weather forecasts stay as good, we plan to snowshoe to Pizol summit (2844m) on Sunday (March 2nd). Not to be confused with the Pizol resort area.


Technical difficulty: WT4

Steep sections ~30 degrees to reach Pizolsattel, and steeper climb from Pizolsattel to the summit without snowshoes (ice axe + crampons recommended)

Elevation gain: ~800m

Distance: 7.5km

Avalanche forecast is low (as of Feb28)

Is other glacier equipment (rope, harness, ice screws) needed as well?

Probably i would meet you at the Talstation in Wangs (by car). I'll bring snowshoes and go as far as the sattel, but I'll see how it looks from there. I can bring light alluminium crampons and axe, as I agree they are safer for the final ridge...let's see how it looks. I won't bring harness- it's no rope I'm assuming....? just careful footwork. To catch the last gondola lift to Wangs we need to be back at Pizolhütte at 4 p.m. so we will have almost 6 hours. It should be more than enough.
