Description

Dear all, please read the description carefully :)

Participant Prerequisites
This is not the cable car route to the Zugspitze – this is a demanding 2-day high-alpine tour through the Höllental via ferrata (Klettersteig), involving glacier, steep climbs, and a significant amount of elevation gain. This is a serious tour, and your participation will be based on your fitness and alpine experience—not on first-come, first-served. Please be mindful that this is NOT A BEGINNER hike and you should have decent experience in alpine air. You are fully responsible for yourself and I won't be able to guarantee that you will get any support in your descent down in case you need to interrupt the tour.

.**Legal Disclaimer**

Please read the following carefully before participating in the hike:

1. **Not a Guided Tour**: This hike is not a guided tour. I am only facilitating the organization of transportation to the starting point for like-minded, qualified, properly equipped, and reliable individuals.

2. **Self-Navigation**: Each participant is responsible for navigating themselves on the suggested route. You must have the necessary skills, experience, and equipment to independently complete the hike.

3. **Acknowledgement of Risk**: By joining this hike, you acknowledge that hiking can be dangerous. You understand and accept the inherent risks involved.

4. **Personal Responsibility**: You are fully responsible for your own safety and well-being during the hike. This includes being prepared for all weather conditions, having adequate supplies, and ensuring your physical readiness for the hike.

5. **Insurance**: You confirm that you have sufficient insurance coverage, such as membership with the German Alpine Club (DAV), Mountain Rescue Service (Bergrettung), or a similar organization. This insurance should cover any potential accidents or emergencies that may occur during the hike.

By participating in this hike, you agree to release the organizer from any liability for injuries, accidents, or other incidents that may occur. You participate at your own risk and responsibility.

If you decide to leave the group (go in front by yourself, or stopping for no reason), then we won’t search for you and you officially left the group, it is also the same if you don't bring required gears.

Minimum Requirements:
Very High Fitness – Whilst the 2-day tour targets to allow a conscious and no-rush race, you must still be able to maintain a certain pace of 350–500 hm/h over sustained periods. IF YOU ARE SIGNIFICANTLY SLOWLIER OR FASTER THAN THIS PLEASE REFRAIN FROM JOINING. WE HIKE AS A GROUP! The summit is physically intense and the hike is supposed to be fun for everybody - we don't want people to rush overly quickly but also won't be waiting for 300 selfies per hour.
Alpine Experience – You are comfortable moving in exposed terrain, including narrow ridges, steep climbs, and high-altitude paths.
Via Ferrata Skills – You have previous experience on C-grade (intermediate) via ferrata routes and know how to use a via ferrata set safely.
Glacier Travel – Basic understanding of glacier movement and safety is required, though the glacier section is relatively short.
Mental Toughness – The summit day includes over 2200m of vertical gain, exposed scrambling, and glacier sections. Weather conditions can change quickly. You must be prepared for a long day at altitude.

Gear - you posess the minimum gear required (alongside gear needed for the hut) or are able to borrow it ahead of time:

🧷 Via Ferrata Set – Certified shock-absorbing lanyard set (no homemade setups)

⛑️ Climbing Helmet – For rockfall and protection in exposed section

🧤 Via Ferrata Gloves – Optional but highly recommended for grip and hand protection

🧗 Climbing Harness – Comfortable, alpine-style harness

🧊 Crampons (Steigeisen) – Lightweight aluminum or steel, compatible with your boots

🥾 Mountaineering Boots – Stiff-soled, crampon-compatible (at least B1, preferably B2)

Good to know

Thing that will be in your own hands:

🛏️ Hut Booking Required – You are responsible for reserving your own overnight stay at Höllentalangerhütte. Spaces fill up quickly—book early.
⛑️ Personal Responsibility – This is an informal group hike via hiking buddies. You are responsible for your own safety, equipment, and decision-making.

This tour is only for those who honestly assess their skills and conditioning. If you’re unsure whether you meet the criteria, this is not the right tour for you.

Planned Dates:
🗓️ 09.08.2025 – 10.08.2025

• 09.08.2025: We meet at 09:00 at the Hammersbach parking (See below). I will be driving from Fürstenfeldbruck and can offer 3 seats on the way to Hammersbach. We go up to Höllentalangerhütte together (relaxed pace, dinner and overnight stay). Optionally, once we've arrived at Höllentalangerhütte, we can chose to explore the area.

• 10.08.2025: Early start (aroud 7:30) for summit push via Höllental Klettersteig (~2200m+ vertical gain).

We descent via cable car (or return on foot for those who are keen to - I will take the cable car) and return home - either via car pools or via train

🌦️ Weather Disclaimer

The route will be continuously monitored based on the weather forecast—both in the lead-up to the trip and on the day itself.
Severe weather (storms, heavy rain, snow, strong wind, etc.) can make the via ferrata and glacier sections extremely dangerous. In such cases:

  • The route may be modified, shortened, or cancelled entirely for safety reasons.

  • Final decisions will be made early on summit day, based on conditions and forecast updates.

  • Please be mentally prepared for flexibility or change of plans.

This is a rout I've been wanting to do for the last 2 years. I've done loads of hikes to Höllentalangerhütte and hiked Zugspitze before via Ehrwald but never in a glaciar valley so the short ice patch is the only one I haven't done before. I have Klettersteig and some Alpine climbing experience and would like to join this hike if it's going ahead in the summer.

Dear all :) the summit is getting closer and I am massively looking forward to our joint hike! If you have already booked the hut, please reach out to me so that I can invite you in our WhatsApp group. Closer towards the summit, I will close the event here to make communication and alignment easier via whatsapp.

Hey guys 😁 I am planning to do this route this month. Can someone please tell me what the conditions are in the Glacier? An estimate of the current gap would be highly appreciated. Thanks!
