Description

Not for beginners. Some technical difficulties (with easy scrambling parts, and steel rope secured sections), both on the way up and on the way down. Also it's lengthy and I want to keep a good pace on the easy parts. You should be able to hike up at least at 500hm/h rate.

Don't worry about one part of the path being displayed as T6 on the profile, that is incorrect and it's actually an easy part.

We are taking the train towards Garmisch, leaving at 6:32. We then have ca. 20 minutes in Garmisch, to change to the train towards Reutte in Tirol. We get off at the Ehrwald Zugspitzbahn stop, at 8:51, and start hiking from there.

The possible trains back from Ehrwald Zugspitzbahn depart at 16:30, 17:30, 18:30, 19:30, 21:36 (last train for the day).

I plan to hike this route in the reverse direction, up via Hoher Gang, and then down via Gruensteinscharte. Alternatively going down via Knappensteig if we want to cut the hike a bit shorter.

What to bring:

  • Have a very good fitness level. Ascend rate should be around 500hm/h at least.
  • Waterproof Hiking boots
  • Good sun cream, and other means of sun protection, like a sun hat, or a baseball cap.
  • Flexible hiking clothes, it will be quite warm and sweaty going up, but you might get wet and cold during the hike.
  • Food and Water for a whole day of hiking (ca. 2 Liter Water recommended).
  • Charged smartphone (my number is +49 152 28632131, in case you get lost, or fail to find the group in the morning).

Good to have equipment

  • First aid kit
  • Extra battery / Powerbank for your phone
  • Hiking poles
  • Spare socks (if your feet get wet)

Cost per person

  • Werdenfels Ticket: Between 10 and 15 Euros per person (Bring Coins!)
