Description

Route: From Habkern we go up to Bäreney at 1677m and then decide on which way we'll reach the Güggisgrat ridge based on the snow conditions. SwissTopo shows some snow patches on the planned route, so if we see them at this point, we'll take a slightly different route to get on the ridge a bit later. We then follow the ridge through Burgfeldstand peak and arrive at Niederhorn. From here it's possible to take a gondola down, but we continue down to Beatenberg, Parkplatz Lood bus stop.

Pace: Moderate (on the faster side). This hike is not suitable for beginners as the ascent is quite significant.

Starting point: Habkern, Steinacker bus stop.

End point: Beatenberg, Parkplatz Lood bus stop.

How to get there: Train IC 81 direction Interlaken Ost departs from Zurich HB at 7:02. Change in Interlaken West to bus B 106.

How to get back: But to Interlaken West and then further by train.

SBB offer: SBB is currently running an offer to buy a dual day ticket for 78 CHF: https://www.sbb.ch/de/kampagne/tageskarte-fuer-2.html. We can try to pair up to use this offer - I'll be happy to share it with someone traveling from Zurich.

What to take: Regular hiking equipment, in particular comfortable shoes (hiking boots or trail running shoes), hiking poles could help if we encounter some snow patches; food - we’ll have picnic lunch at the top; water; sunscreen; sunglasses; rain jacket (if there is a chance of rain - check the latest forecast).

Disclaimer: I'm not a guide - everyone hikes at their responsibility and risk.
