This is a classic route in the Aletschgebiet. From Fiescheralp we pass under the Tälligrat through a 1 km tunnel, then follow the Aletsch Panoramaweg along (what's left of...) the Aletsch glacier, joining the Bettmergrat at Hohbalm and following it to Riederfurka and Riederalp.
We are early in the season, so maybe
this route won't be as packed with hikers as it normally is?
To the best
of my knowledge, this route is rated T3 by the SAC. If you need to know more about the SAC's
"T" scale for hiking routes, see: https://www.sac-cas.ch/fileadmin/Ausbildung_und_Wissen/Sicher_unterwegs/Sicher_unterwegs_Wandern/2020_Berg_Alpinwanderskala_EN.pdf
We will aim for a moderate pace (~400 m per hour uphill).
Bring rain gear (you never know...) and sufficient food and water for your
needs. Hiking poles may be helpful. Bring boots, not street shoes. Bring gaiters too, because we are likely to encounter
old patches of snow.
Meet at 9:55 at the Seilbahn station in Fiesch or at 10:10 in Fiescheralp (Seilbahn Bergstation).
Traveling from Zurich HB, the train you want is IC8 to Brig, at 07:02 from track 31, then in Brig you want R43 at 09:23 from track 11.
Return is from Riederalp to Mörel, then Brig and Zurich (or wherever you call home).
If you have a GA or an SBB Tageskarte, the Seilbahn to Fiescheralp and back from Riederalp is already included. SBB is currently offering a 2-for-1 special Tageskarte, for people traveling together.
