Description

Route: From Langwies we follow Jakobsweg (https://schweizmobil.ch/en/hiking-in-switzerland/route-43/stage-9) to Strelapass, from where we head up to Gross Schiahorn. We then descend and follow a panoramic route down to Davoser See, where we can take a refreshing dip. From Davos Dorf there are convenient trains back to Zurich, but I would encourage you to stay in Davos overnight and continue hiking the next day (see https://www.hiking-buddies.com/routes/events/11640). I will be staying in the Youth Hostel in Davos (http://www.youthhostel.ch/de/hostels/davos) and it seems they still have plenty of free spaces.

Pace: Moderate (on the faster side). This hike is not suitable for beginners as the ascent is quite significant.

Starting point: Langwies GR train station.

End point: Davos Dorf

How to get there: Train IC 3 direction Chur departs from Zurich HB at 7:38. Change in Chur R16 direction Arosa.

How to get back: Train from Davos Dorf, though you're encouraged to stay overnight in Davos.

What to take: Regular hiking equipment, in particular comfortable shoes (hiking boots or trail running shoes); food - we’ll have picnic lunch somewhere along the way; water; sunscreen; sunglasses; rain jacket (if there is a chance of rain - check the latest forecast); swimming suit & towel; clothes for the night if staying overnight.

Disclaimer: I'm not a guide - everyone hikes at their responsibility and risk.

WhatsApp group: https://chat.whatsapp.com/GBQZUDAQjQP3Wd0xznW6Jb BTW according to the current forecast there is some possibility of thunderstorms in the area. As a back up plan if the conditions get bad we could skip the peak and head straight down from Strelapass. I'm also considering starting the hike earlier. I'll make the decision tomorrow.

Considering that the weather forecast improved a bit, and that there are various restaurants on the way where we could hide in case the storm comes early, let's stick to the original starting time. We'll potentially modify the route as we go.

Hi Aleksander, it would be good to start earlier to avoid the rain. I will skip the peak and head down from the pass if that’s ok with you.
