Let's go by public transport to the Sonnwendfeier (summer solstice) event at the Kampenwand.
Note that the return involves hiking back to the valley floor in the dark !
Also, we will arrive quite late in Munich.
You must have a headlamp and please make sure it is fully charged. Please do not join if you don't have one.
We will take the RE5 from Munich Hbf at 12:55 towards Salzburg. We will change trains in Prien am Chiemsee and take the RB52 to Aschau (Chiemgau). We arrive at 14:16.
From there we will hike to Kampenwandhütte where the event will take place.
The event celebration starts at 18:00 so we don't need to rush, medium hiking pace is sufficient.
To return we take the same trains in reverse. We start at RB52 from Aschau (Chiemgau) at 23:30. We change to RE5 in Prien am Chiemsee and arrive in Munich at 00:58. To achieve this we need to start hiking back to the valley at the latest around 21:30.
This is the last train of the day and we have to rely on it. If somehow the train gets cancelled, we will need to figure out a solution and have fun somehow :).
The usual disclaimer. I am not a guide, hiking can be dangerous and everyone is responsible for themselves. Please make sure you have the required physical fitness and familiarize yourself with the hike. In addition, this is a night hike so you need to be comfortable with walking in the dark on a hiking trail and you must bring a headlamp.
