This scenic 27–30 km stage of the Way of St. James leads from Schäftlarn Abbey near Munich to Andechs Abbey, one of Bavaria’s most famous pilgrimage sites.
The route passes through peaceful forests, the charming Maisinger Gorge, and open meadows and villages, offering views of the Alps along the way. Key highlights include the Maisinger Lake, traditional Bavarian villages like Aschering, and the final steep ascent to the “Holy Mountain” of Andechs.
At the top, pilgrims are rewarded with a visit to the baroque monastery, its brewery, beer garden, and panoramic views.
