Starting from the parking lot at the Ehrwalder Almbahn, this demanding full-day tour combines several via ferrata routes, alpine trails, and a summit ascent. The route begins with the Seeben via ferrata (difficulty D/E), leading up to the Seebensee, where the trail continues towards the Tajakante via ferrata (D/E) and across exposed ridges to the Coburger via ferrata (D/E). After passing the Drachensee, you descend to the Coburger Hut for a longer break/ lunch. From there, the tour continues with the ascent of the Ehrwalder Sonnenspitze (UIAA II sections, surefootedness and no fear of heights required) before returning via the Hoher Gang trail back to the starting point. The entire route takes around 10–12 hours, covers approximately 2200-2300 vertical meters, and requires an early departure from Munich (around 5:30–6:00 a.m.) to complete safely in daylight. This is a highly challenging alpine tour suited only for experienced hikers and climbers with fitting fitness and via ferrata equipment.
The hike up to Sonnenspitze will be seen as optional in the end and if we really go for it can be decided as a group depending on how we feel after reaching Coburger Hütte.
Bring your swimming gear if you wanna join me jumping into Drachensee or Seebener See along the route ;)
Please note, I am in good physical condition but no mountain expert as I mostly started doing more complex tours this year only. Don‘t expect a pro guided tour in this case 😉
If the weather is not playing along - alternative date would be one week later 09th of August for me :)
