Plan:
We’ll meet at Winklmoosalm to watch the sunset and then lie on the meadow to enjoy the meteor shower. At the Starpark, we’ll observe the stars, the Milky Way, and the Perseids. Feel free to bring a mat to lie on while stargazing. A sleeping bag or warm blanket is recommended, as it can get quite chilly at night.
Preliminary Schedule:
~ 18:00 — Departure from Munich
~ 19:45 — Arrival at Winklmoosalm Parkplatz
~ 20:30 — Sunset viewing
~ 00:00 — Departure from Winklmoosalm (flexible per car; possibly earlier around 23:00)
~ 01:45 — Back in Munich
Note:
More people are currently interested in this event than there are cars available. Please add your car and number of free seats.
If you’re able to leave Munich at 15:00, you can also include a short hike before the stargazing. Check out my “hike + stargazing event” from last year for more details.
Moon:
-> this week the meteor shower is better visible. Next week the moon will shine too bright.
Weather forecast for 31.7 (checked on 30.7):
-> looks dry after 7pm in the night.
RED LIGHT POLICY: For our best viewing experience we will not allow any other than red light, which does not disturb human night vision. You must bring a headlamp or torch with red light. The red light must be activated directly, without cycling through other light modes.
Camera flash must be disabled. Activate the blue light filter (night mode) on your smartphone, if it supports it.
