Description

This weekend is going to be cold and rainy. Let's move inside ;)

We will visit the largest ice cave of the world, Eisriesenwelt, combined with an easy hike before and after to warm up from the freezing temperatures.

Route: Most tourists take the cable car to avoid hiking, but you should at least hike to entrance of the cave (ca 660m gain) and within the cave (+134m gain). The Achselkopf peak (ca +180m gain) after the guided tour (ca 12€) is optional.

Technical Difficulty: This hike is suitable for beginners with moderate pace. You should, however, exercise sport regularly and NOT be slow (>350m gain/hour is OK).

Preliminary schedule: We'll start in Munich at 9:00. The ride takes about 2h. The guided tour takes 75mins. The hike to/from the cave takes about 3h in total. The hike above the cave could take 1-2h. Don't make plans for the evening. We might have dinner in Salzburg and stroll around.

Transport: We will go by car as the starting point is not easily accessible by public transport. The driver(s) may require passengers to pay in advance. Please read the car instructions carefully. If the hike or lift is cancelled or postponed, the drivers must reimburse the prepaid payments. Otherwise a passenger dropping out before departure must only be reimbursed if the driver can find a replacement. Car drivers must contact me first if they drop out. The shared costs include the vignette (9,2€/car).

Joining: Click on carpool. If a car has free seats, and possibly join the car. Otherwise add yourself to the waiting list and regularly check for free seats. You are not automatically assigned to a car. If a car is deleted, you must add yourself to the waiting list again. The hike will be cancelled if there are less than 3 participants.

Legal disclaimer: This is not a guided tour. I merely organize the trip to the starting point with like-minded, qualified, properly equipped and reliable persons. Every participant must be able to navigate her/himself on the suggested route. If you join, you acknowledge that hiking is dangerous, you are fully responsible for yourself and that you have sufficient insurance (DAV, Bergrettung or similar).
