Not for beginners. T4/1400m elevation/22km: requires sure-footedness and comfortable with some exposure/scrambling/use of metal cable and metal steps at the top (check youtube if you want to be sure).
I am not hiking for speed, but to complete the route, I estimate ~4 hours to reach the peak including water breaks on the way up. Requires a pace of approx 400m / hour. I will not go much faster than this! :)
Route based on Komoot route: https://www.komoot.com/tour/95968551/zoom
Rationale:
Sunday will be sunny (approx 22c in Ehrwald / 10c at Tajakopf peak)
I love Coburger hütte (partic the Tiroler Gröstl)
I still need to swim in Drachensee (even if will be arschkalt).
Timings
07:45 Cars leave central Munich
09:20 Cars arrive and park in the carpark closest to Ehrwalder Almbahn
09:30 - 18:30 hiking
Aim to reach peak: 13:30-14:00.
Lunch ~approx 14:30
After the peak, we will stop at Coburger Hütte to eat late lunch. Personally I prefer to eat after completing the ascent and I estimate we reach the hütte around 14:30. Bear in mind this will be approx 12km into the hike, so make sure you bring enough snacks to keep going for the route.
Swim in Drachensee if you dare! :-)
18:30-19:00 finish at car park.
Bring:
DAV insurance
Download GPX
Power bank
ID (we will be in Austria)
Cash for the hütte
Poles
Hiking boots
Sun cream
Sunglasses
Hat
Plenty of water (minimum 2-3 litres)
Swim stuff, towel
Snacks for the route
Layers - the peak is 10 degrees according to the forecast and wind will pick up in the pm, so it will feel colder despite the sunshine.
I am not a professional mountain guide. Everyone joining this hike does so at their own risk. Be prepared to download the GPX and familiarise yourself with the route, level of difficulty and conditions. Bring adequate equipment and provisions.
