In case you cannot join the hike, make sure to drop out more than 24h before the start to avoid unnecessary hut costs.

Please do not join if you are not meeting the following criteria:
✔️ Participated in at least 3 hikes with Hiking Buddies Zürich (Munich for the Munich version of the event) within the past 12 months (no longer valid if there are free spots 72h before the event)

✔️ If you're a Munich Buddy, you must have with you the DAV membership card.
✔️ Have a strong fitness level (≥500m elevation gain/hour, can handle ~1600m gain in a day)
✔️ No fear of exposure, experience with T4 hikes or via ferratas is a must

• Each participant will receive one Arc'teryx goodie (shirt / beanie / gloves / headband / cap / ...).

  ➤ If you already got one from a previous event, wear that one – no promise for a new one.

🏔️ General Information

• Route: Alpine trail, T4 difficulty, with via ferrata sections (A/B)

• Fitness level: Very good (cardio & endurance required)

• Overnight: Waltenbergerhaus (booked)

• Pace: ~500–600m/hour uphill

🗺️ Schedule

Sunday

• 08:30: Meet in Oberstdorf (Parkplatz Nebelhornbahn Talstation), then take the bus to Birgsau Alpe Eschbach (Bus #7 at 9h35 from Busbahnhof stop).

• 10:00: Start the hike up to Rappensee

• Optional ascent of Hohes Licht (2,651m)

• Arrive at Waltenbergerhaus for dinner & overnight (sponsored by Arc'teryx)

Monday

• 07:00: Breakfast at hut

• 08:00: Hike the legendary Heilbronner Weg (via ferrata sections – A/B, exposed alpine trail)

• Lunch break at Kemptner Hütte (unless we arrive too early!)

• Continue to Kreuzeck, Rauheck and descend to the valley

• Probably have a drink at Gertruben Gasthof

• End at Christlesee bus stop, bus back to Oberstdorf

• Approx. 18:00: Arrival back in town

🎒 Gear

Mandatory:

• Helmet + via ferrata set (can be rented)

• Hiking boots with good grip

• 3L water minimum

• Food/snacks

• Hüttenschlafsack (thin sleeping liner for hut)

• Sunscreen & sunglasses

• Layers (weather can change quickly at altitude)

Optional but recommended:

• Hiking poles

• Headlamp

• Lightweight gloves for via ferrata

• Carpooling or public transport to Oberstdorf
