Climbing the Alpspitze via Matheisenkar is like ordering the “full menu” of the Bavarian Alps: an airy ferrata to the summit, jaw-dropping views, and then a descent that feels endless (hello, scree slopes!). It’s tough, wild, and not for the faint-hearted — but the bragging rights at the end taste almost as good as a cold beer in Garmisch.
This hike includes a via ferrata of grade B/C. Please download the map on your own phone (offline version too).
On our way up we can either go through Höllentalklamm or Stangensteig. When there are a lot of people we cannot descent Alpspitz ferrata and have to take Nordwandsteig or Schöngänge (both options are little bit longer).
When weather gets bad or we are super tired we could take a cable car on our way down.
Last bus back is at 22:08 pm but I wouldn't rely on that since I had not too funny experiences with the last buses :))
It will be a long day so please do not plan anything else for the day.
