Description

Hello Hiking Buddies and newbies,

Time for a classic.  This is a great hike if you are new to hiking and want to cut your teeth.  With just over 1000m gain, trails from easy to medium, a cable car for emergencies, and most importantly, a hut for a warm (or cold) drink, this is a great hike to take your hiking to the next level.  We might have a little bit of snow, so a good chance to test your gear, or at least get used to the weight of carrying it.

We will stay together as a group and stop for lunch at the hut at the top.  We will go as fast as the slowest person.

For experienced, faster hikers, I encourage you join and use this as an chance to train your "strength endurance" (a.k.a. carrying extra weight, 5 - 15% body weight). And/or you could do squats to stay warm during the breaks.

I will join the train in Pasing, so I hope your folks can find each other in Munich.  Collect yourselves at Platform 29 around 8am so you can be sure to get a spot on the train, and find each other.  I will post a WhatsApp group later to help organize this.  Please save me a seat.

Packlist:

  • Water (minimum 1L)
  • snacks
  • cash
  • headlamp
  • warm layers
  • Deutschland Ticket (or otherwise)
  • spikes
  • gaitors
  • emergency blanket
  • map with route (downloaded or otherwise)
  • poles

Ideally we will off the mountain by dark and we can catch either the 16:05 or 17:05 back to Munich.  But bring a headlamp and warm clothes, just in case.

As I am posting this so far out, we might have to reschedule the hike due to the weather.  But mostly only if it is going to rain.  Cold or snow shouldn't stop us!

Hello All, The weather is looking a bit sus, but its nothing we can't handle. My apps are saying itll improve as the day goes on, but a rain jacket and umbrella are never a bad ideea. Looks like we will have a bit of snow, and probably ice, so bring your spikes and gaitors, too. We have some folks on the waiting list, so if you aren't planning on coming, please make space in the event. If you are planning on coming, and I how you are, then join the WhatsApp so we can better coordinate.

Important Update: so turns out the hut and cable car are closed right now. As of right right now, I’m not changing the route, tho this means folks need to bring their lunch/drinks. There is a Shelterroom that should be available to us where we can warm a bit and eat lunch, if it’s so cold. This also means our emergency cable car exit is unavailable, so we’ll have to be a bit more careful with our day light. 8 hours is plenty, even at a slow pace, but it’ll depend on snow conditions. worst case, we go halfway, and simple turn around. a head lamp is a good idea, just in case. snow makes it an adventure 😎
