Description
- Goal: Scouting for the snow limit and testing winter equipment,
- Distance: 12...14 km,
- Duration: ~ 4-5 h hiking time, plus breaks and stops,
- Difficulty: light to medium,
- Activity level: Medium
- Time: 9:30-15:30 o'clock (or longer)
Good to know
Let's meet at the bus stop "Schattdorf, Dorf" and then ...
... option A: Take the cable car up to "Haldi". From there we walk towards the mountains along snowy paths and roads and then back to the cable car.
... option B: Let's hike up to the mountain plain, crossing the snow limit on foot and walking around Haldi. Then walking downhill as well on a different route.
Make sure to bring/prepare:
- Hiking shoes or boots with optional gaiters.
- Hiking poles are optional, but highly recommended.
- Clothing according to your needs and the weather, in 2-4 layers.
- Gloves and an extra pair of socks.
- Provisions of tea and snacks for the day.

Ps. I see that avalanche risk is considerable for this region (3- according to white risk). I haven’t done the route personally, but would we be around any major dangers, steeper sections etc?

The route and other paths we will go don't have a high steepness, hence I don't think we are in a particular danger zone. Still, if we don't like the conditions, we can always turn around. We are scouting the area to find out more exactly about the conditions for future winter hikes, too.
