Großer Galtenberg (2424m) und Kleiner Galtenberg (2318m)

I would like to discover something new and this time we go for Schneeschuhe Wanderung in Kitzbühel Alps.


The Großer Galtenberg is the highest mountain in the Alpbach valley (and one of 9 highest in Tirol) in the Austrian state of Tyrol and belongs to the Kitzbühel Alps. It is 2,424 m (AA) high, is located at the southern end of the Alpbach valley and may be approached from the Alpbach suburb of Inneralpbach. The Alpbachtal ski region is located opposite the Galtenberg. From the summit there are views of Wildschönau and the Alpbach valley.

We start from Alpbach, what is officially the most beautiful village in Austria. If we park somewhere near, I still would like to visit a village (also we can eat there after the hike), want to see this cozy and idyllisches Dorf.

The hut on the way (Farmkehralm) is closed during the winter, but as per Alpbach tourism, we can try the best Kaiserschmarrn in Zottahof, (Reinhilde Bletzacher, Alpbach 115, 6236 Alpbach) or simply eat somewhere in Alpbach village (ZirmAlm for example).

*This is a carpool event. The costs for petrol, vignette, tolls, and parking will be shared among the participants.
Bringing extra shoes for the car and an extra T-shirt might be useful.
*WhatsApp group link will be sent to confirmed participants. The exact meeting point will also be shared in the group.
*The tour involves around 1,400 m of elevation gain, so good stamina and winter mountain experience are required.
*Good mood, positive vibes, and the ability to be a team player are essential. This is not a guided tour.
*P.S. We’ll try to do both peaks. If there is no track or if snow conditions are not ideal, we’ll aim for at least one peak.
*Snowshoes are mandatory. Please also bring Grödel.

🥾🧤🧣Please be prepared for winter conditions on the trail:❗️spikes is a MUST HAVE, gaiters, head lamp, hiking shoes with a good profile (we are not going to walk in the park), layered outdoor clothing, sunglasses, gloves, etc. (as experienced hikers, you know what should be in your Rucksack 😉)
