Description

This is a very spontaneous 2-day hike at the Rofan area, with overnight stay at Erfurter Hütte (https://www.erfurterhuette.at/preise/).

Since it is such a last minute call, if anyone is interested, send me a PM with your number.

I called the Hut and they have availability, we can simply show up tomorrow, no need for reservation.

Plan is as follows, but might change (be flexible).

Day 1 - Saturday 31/01

  • Train from Munich Hbf at 8:43 (direction Kufstein, from there we will need extra tickets for the Austrian part train+bus to Maurach 16.70€). Hike should start around 11:20.
  • Maurach to Erfurter Hütte - some 4.5km 800m elevation gain. According to the Hut this will be mix of mud, ice, snow, I account for some 3h in motion to get to the hut. (webcam shows quite some snow: https://www.erfurterhuette.at/webcam/).
  • Once there we can relax, or simply decide to explore some peak on the area. Or if we are too early, we could even go to Rofanspitze on Saturday.

Day 2 - Sunday 01/02

  • From Erfuter Hütte to Rofansptize (3.5km 430m elevation), there the snow might go deeper, my snowshoes are broken, so I will go without, and if not possible, then will replan and do something else on that area.
  • Depending on conditions there are multiple options down, but most likely, we would do the same way down to Maurach, because the south side down to Wiesig or Münster is very steep and avalanche risky.
  • Back from Maurach to Munich, there is a bus at 15:20 (18:15) and 16:20 (19:15), and some later options. Ideally we can make it on time to one of these two. (Again will need 16.70€ to get to Kufstein)

Side Note: there is also the possiblity of taking cable car from/to Maurach/Hutte.
