Glaube. Hoffnung. Liebe.
These words are inscribed on one of the most meaningful summit crosses — the cross of the Rofanspitze (2,259 m) above the Achensee, Austria (Rofan, Brandenberg Alps).
The neighboring peak, Seekarlspitze (2,261 m), is home to one of the heaviest summit crosses, weighing around 2,700 kg.
The panorama from the top is absolutely unbeatable. We will go to Rofanspitze and see if Seekarlspitze is also possible to do (timing/Stamina).

In 2020, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Maurach Mountain Rescue Service, the brothers Raimund and Simon Walser finally realised a long-held plan. A summit cross made of stone was to be erected on the Seekarlspitze. A cross was made out of a 6,7-tonne granite block. A total of 700 working hours were spent on the production, foundation and transport. The cross has been standing at the summit since 22 July 2020. It is a sign of appreciation for those helpers who rescue victims from mountain distress, always risking their own lives in the process.

*This is a carpool event. The costs for petrol, vignette, tolls, and parking will be shared among the participants.
Bringing extra shoes for the car and an extra T-shirt might be useful.
*WhatsApp group link will be sent to confirmed participants. The exact meeting point will also be shared in the group.
*The tour involves around 1300m of elevation gain, so good stamina and winter mountain experience are required.
*Good mood, positive vibes, and the ability to be a team player are essential. This is not a guided tour.
*P.S. We’ll try to do Seekarlspitze 2261m with its 2tonnen marmor cross as well if we have enough time and stamina. If there is no track or if snow conditions are not ideal, we’ll aim for at least one peak.
*Snowshoes & Headlamp are mandatory. Please also bring Grödel.

!!! Im Winter werden alpine Wanderungen zu ambitionierten Unternehmen. Die Schwierigkeitsgrade aus dem Sommer gelten jetzt nicht mehr. Jede Tour muss neu bewertet werden und die Verhältnisse müssen vor Ort kritisch geprüft werden. Zudem wird die für den Winter passende Ausrüstung benötigt.

We ended up not following the planned route and chose a different path toward Seekarlspitze, hoping for more sun and panoramic views. It turned out to be much more challenging than expected 😅 We stayed together as a team, supported each other, and made it through. A real adventure and a great learning experience. Next time, we’ll stick to the planned route!

Yeah, our light tour to Rofanspitze somehow turned into an adventurous ascent of Seekarlspitze via Spieljoch (summer route). Rofangebirge challenge was accepted. Thanks to everyone for a beautiful day we’ll definitely remember. Couldn’t imagine better people to share that moment with. #Squad #ChasingLimits P.S. Rofanspitze is waiting for us (I mean Winter Edition).
