Description

(TO BE POSTPHONED DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS)

Day 1 – Munich to Rotwandhaus via Kreuzalm
We roll out from Munich early and head south toward the foothills of the Alps, leaving the city behind as the landscape opens into rolling farmland and quiet country roads. The route gets tough when we make our way up towards Kreuzalm. We ideally refuel there and begin the real climbing soon after.

By late afternoon we reach the Rotwandhaus, perched high above the valleys with panoramic views across the Bavarian Alps. When the gradient gets really steep, we switch to hiking with the bike until Rotwandhaus. I aim to be at Rotwandhaus before 5pm giving us sufficient time to relax, change and be ready for day 2.

Good to know

Technical Difficulty

This ride is NOT suitable for beginners.

  • Long distance from Munich with significant elevation gain
  • Mixed terrain: asphalt, gravel roads, forest tracks, and rough alpine paths
  • Sustained climbs and potential hike‑a‑bike sections
  • Alpine hike pushing the bike to Rotwandhaus

Participants should have good endurance, confident bike handling on gravel, and basic mountain hiking experience.

Weather and Snow Conditions

To be updated closer to the day.
Conditions at altitude can be very different from Munich (cold, wind, snow patches possible).
The hiking part and/or route may be adjusted or shortened depending on weather and trail conditions.

Accommodation

We will do an overnight stay at Rotwandhaus.

I have currently only 1 bed booked but there's plenty availiable at Rotwandhaus.

  • Dinner and breakfast available at the hut
  • Expect typical alpine hut conditions (shared rooms, limited facilities)
