Endurance training in the mountains
This route is inspired by the newly announced sport challenge Tegernsee Marsch which offers two routes:
• 30 km with approx. 450 m elevation gain
• 50 km with approx. 1500 m elevation gain
(Both routes can be found on their website. The official event will take place in June, so if you’d like to participate, please check all details and register directly via the official webpage.)
I have slightly modified the 50 km route to include a few additional peaks/crosses along the way (Neureuth, Gindelalmschneid, Riederstein) and a more challenging ascent in the middle (Leonhardstein, T3 section). The area is well known, and we will go up and down three times—which is demanding, but also excellent for both physical and mental endurance training.
Our Tegernsee march is an unofficial event, meaning there will be no medals, certificates, or refreshment stations. Everything you need, you must carry yourself (full equipment for a long-distance tour).
We will start and finish in Gmund. The plan is to maintain a steady hiking pace (no running), focusing on completing the 50 km with approx. 2300 m elevation gain, and ideally catching the last train to Munich (23:00) or an earlier one.
P.S. This is a demanding tour, so it is intended for experienced participants only. This is not meant to exclude anyone, but reflects the reality based on experience. If you have previously completed long-distance hikes (30 km+) and around 2000 m elevation gain, this will likely be a great challenge for you.
For a good atmosphere within the group, I prefer to have participants with whom we know each other/have already done some challenging tours.
