Description

I booked a few spots on Neue Magdeburger Hütte to attempt this stunning ridge hike around Erlspitzgruppe and Nordkette.

The plan:

The first day will bring some spicy challenges and we need to move fast to make it in time for supper at the hut (6pm). If the conditions are favourable, I would like to take a shortcut from Kuhljochspitze to Eppzirler Scharte (UIAA grade III). Otherwise we just follow the route. Day 2 will be much easier with only T4 trails but still long. We can leave some of our stuff the hut as we will pass it later again. We can take a short break for some swimming in the little reservoir above the gorge. We will then descend further through the gorge and go back up again to the train station.

Before you join:
Even though this is a 2-day hike, it is still a very long technical and demanding tour. We will move fast and only take short breaks. Only join if you are capable of sustaining 600hm/hr and you actually know what this means! Other challenges: Via ferrata up to grade C/D, possibly pathless terrain, scrambling up to grade III. Overestimating yourself can put not only yourself but the whole group in danger!

What to bring:

  • hut liner sleeping bag
  • enough food and water for day 1, we can buy either something at the hut or at the Jausenstation
  • cash for the huts (100€+ recommended), stay is 12€, half board is 42€ / breakfast only is 17€
  • via ferrata set incl. gloves
  • helmet
  • change of clothes
  • wash bag, towel, headlamp, earplugs
  • house shoes for the hut (flip-flops / slides are fine)
  • sun/wind/rain protection
  • swimwear
  • good mood

Early connection due to anticipated train disruption. Will update closer to the event. Changes / postponing possible due to bad weather or train connections.
