Full disclosure: I am shamelessly copying this event description from Jannis' previous hike. Why reinvent the wheel when someone has already described paradise so well? Consider this a tribute, not plagiarism. 😄
Whoever hasn't yet been to the Eng Valley / Ahornboden is missing out on one of the most beautiful hiking areas in the Alps—if not in the entire world. It’s a truly magical place.
Join us for a hike from the Eng Valley to the Inn Valley via the Lamsenjochhütte. We'll take a train to Lenggries, followed by a bus into the Eng Valley. That’s where our hike begins.
We'll make our way to the well-known Lamsenjochhütte and take a break there. From there, we continue our descent into the Inn Valley.
It’ll be a long and fun day—just as a sunny summer weekend deserves.
Beginners are welcome—as long as you have done hikes of similar length before and are confident you can manage the 18 km route at a reasonable pace.
Please be on time, and if you press the “Join” button, try not to discover a sudden passion for pressing “Unjoin” later. 😜
Kindly remember to pack the following essentials:
Food and drinks
ID (we'll be crossing borders)
Cash for hut, bus and train
Sun protection according to the latest weather forecast
Alpenverein membership / mountain insurance (recommended)
First aid kit for emergencies (recommended)
Credits: About 87% of this event description was lovingly borrowed from Jannis' previous event. The route is great, the description was great, and I strongly believe in recycling. ♻️😄
P.S. If Jannis joins and notices I copied his description, please act surprised.
Outbound Journey
🚆 RB56 from Munich Hbf
07:02 → 08:11 to Lenggries
(I will be boarding at Harras.)
🚌 Bus 369 from Lenggries
08:18 → 09:20 to Hinterriss Gasthaus
This should get us to the trailhead with enough time to start the hike without rushing.
Return Journey
Our target connection is:
🚆 Schwaz → Munich
18:09 → 20:19
Of course, mountains, weather, and group speed may have their own opinions, but this is the train we will aim for.
Tickets & Costs
As we will be returning from Austria, everyone will need a ticket until Kufstein . To keep things simple (and cheaper), we can buy group tickets together, which should work out to approximately €11 per person.
Bring a little cash and your best group-ticket-sharing spirit. 😊
Disclaimer: Please note that this list is not exhaustive and every participant should conduct their own research and self-assessment before joining. Additionally, please be advised that I am not a mountain guide and hiking can be risky. Therefore, you are responsible for your own safety and must familiarize yourself with the route and its requirements. I recommend downloading a map and bringing a cell phone for emergencies.
Important: if the weather decides to become chaotic mountain nonsense, I may move the hike to another date. Alpine views are great; alpine thunderstorms are less fun.
