A winter hike to one of the most popular peaks of the Bavarian Alps, taking a less known route from the north. I have never been there yet (crowds...) but it should be quite lonely in the middle of the week in December, so I want to take this chance.
We take train to Kochel at 9.00 from Haupbahnhof and start hiking around 10:15. We should be able to complete the hike before it gets dark without any problem, and the last part is very easy along the Kochelsee. Still, a flash-light is required!
If we are lucky with timing, we might skip the last flat 4km and take a bus, but it only goes every 2h in the relevant time window, so we might well not wait for it and just walk instead.
I would like to keep the pace of 450mph at least, so you need to be at least reasonably fit and have some experience with walking in snow!
Take with you:
