Description

UPDATE: we meet one hour earlier 6:30 (Munich), 8:30 (Leutasch) to reduce the risk of possible thunderstorms during descent.

Maximum participants: 14 and limited by the number of cars

The tour will be cancelled if it rains on Sunday. Please check for updates on Saturday 8pm and Sunday morning. Read the instructions, too!

Meeting in Leutasch: parking lot at the end Salzbach, Leutasch at SUN, Aug 19 ca 8:30 AM

Meeting in Munich (carpools)Carpool planning (please sign up as driver or passenger/waitlist) departure at about 6:30 AM - ask your car driver.

TransportWe go by car, as it would take 3,5h with the train/bus. Currently we have two cars. We will split the costs.

The Hochwanner is Germany's second highest mountain (2744m, not to be confused with the Ammergauer Hochwanner). Unlike the overcrowded Zugspitze it is relatively unknown and so rarely frequented that it is partially trackless. See route details for the exact route.

Disclaimer: This is NOT a guided tour. You are responsible for yourself.

Technical Difficulty: This hike is NOT suitable for beginners. You have to be surefooted and no fear of heights. Also, you need a good stamina.

We will have lunch at one of the huts during descent, so bring enough food/drink to avoid starvation/dehydration before reaching there. The way is on the south side, sun exposed and partially steep. You might sweat a lot.

Note: Please unjoin the event well in advance, if you don't want to come. You cannot unjoin the event when it is starting in less than 12 hours.

Good to know

Things to bring:

  • Hiking boots and poles
  • Enough food and drink (min. 2l water, the hut is during the descent)
  • Helmet
  • Sunscreen
