Description
Join in for something different. We hike up to the Refugio Altavista (3260m), stay there for the night - make sure to get your reservation: https://www.volcanoteide.com/es/volcano_teide/senderismo/refugio_de_altavista
In the morning we get up early (around 5.30h a.m.), put on warm gear and headlights and get to summit of Spain's highest mountain to watch the sunrise.
Good to know
Bring enough food and drinks as the hut does not provide meals just the possibility to cook your own meal. Some vending machines are also available for hot/cold drinks and snacks. Bring coins!

I assume your have looked it up, but as info. you can only be at the top of the mountain after your overnight stay and you have a time window between 6-9am. After you have to be out of the crater or you will get a fine... Take into consideration the temperatures on the top and the WINDCHILL: I was in summer, with over 35 degrees at see level, and for the sunrise I had to put my three layers and the sleeping bag on top. I cannot imagine how cold that must be right now in the middle of the winter... but good luck and enjoy, the views will be amazing!

Hi Ander, yes, it will be cold. As for the time up at the crater, I assume that we will descend soon after sunrise, so 9 am. Will not be an issue.

I was on Teide last year at the end of February. The weather was fine, I think, better, that during your stay in summer. One Jacket was enough . You never know, what you get on Teide :)

Enjoy your hike! I took a longer route through the entire national park and it was amazing. Tenerife has very steady temperatures all year long but on teide it can get cold if you have to wait for sunrise very long. I hope you will see a lot of tajinaste
